Q & A

Q: How many families does the Co-Op need to run?

A: We are seeking seven to twelve families in addition to our own to run the co-op.

Q: What is the cost?

A: $360 per family per semester. This covers the cost of materials for projects, materials, photo copies, needed art and science supplies and for the care/keeping/ maintenance of space and curriculum materials.

Q: What is required of me? Is it drop off? Can I leave and come back?

A: First of all, the most important thing is that you come! We want the families invested in the program to help it run smoothly, for the children to be able to build relationships and grow from week to week.

There a system of sign ups so parents can support the instructors equally and take their turns assisting. For both the Seedlings and Saplings there will be a two leads each week and four assistants. There should be two leads each week ready to help the Saplings group.

If we find things are going smoothly there may be some flexibility with dropping off or parents leaving for a time on weeks they are not signed up to lead or assist. Most parents we expect to stay and be on hand in case projects or students need help -  and they will, especially ones who are still learning to spell and write, and the history and science projects can be a little messy. The more adults on hand the better. Also encouraged: volunteer hours with a different group than your child is in if you want to given them some chances to be without you! There will be time to read, knit, chat with other parents as well. Well he

Q: Where are you located?

A: On Grove Street in Northern Framingham, not far from the old Framingham State University and Stearns Organic Farm. About 2 miles from where Rte 9 and Rte 30 meet.

Q: Is this a Christian/Religious affiliated group?

A: No. Though our family comes from a Christian background there is no statement of faith associated with this group. There will be no Biblical teachings though references to a deity(ies) could come up when studying history, poetry, mythology, etc. We are welcoming to all faiths and beliefs or non-belief systems and want to note this is a safe space for gender non-conforming/transchildren. The values that are important here are:

1) Respect and kindness towards all humans and animal life
2) Apologize and fix it when we mess up and hurt others accidentally or in our moments of weakness
3) Leave the yard and co-op spaces as you found them, everyone helps clean up.
4) Have fun and grow some brain cells while you're here!

Q: Is there parking?

A: The house is set more than four hundred feet from the road, our driveway can accommodate not only twenty+ cars but younger siblings of co-op students with scooters and bikes and skateboards are always welcome to ride outside, weather permitting.

Q: Allergy stuff?

A: We are open to keeping it nut free if we have children with allergies. However, as a farm we have cats (we love them for their mice catching activities outside near the barn) but they do largely stay in the house. Every morning before co-op starts the spaces will be carefully cleaned and wiped down and vacuumed.

Q: What other resources are available?

A: There are more than forty games and puzzles, Duplos, LEGOs, wooden blocks, PlayStix, match box cars, trampolines, plastic animals, a lending library, art supplies, dress up, parachute, and of course, access to the farm, woods to your heart's content. If some children want to stay playing outside after co-op hours have officially ended, the woods are yours.

Q: You've only put down curriculum for the 1st semester...

A: When we get enough families committed and signed up, we can plan out both semesters better! Please join Hope Farm Home School Co-Op!
